Due to a trip out of town, we have to hang the "Gone fishin'" sign on the blog for a couple of days. If you just can't live without your African fix, I recommend Ryzard Kapucinski's Shadown of the Sun. It is an incredible collection of reportage from across the continent by a man with a keen eye for the telling detail. Though I warn that returning to our blog on Monday will be like pushing aside that perfectly grilled filet mignon for a return to a bowl of Fruity Pebbles.
You can also enjoy another tantalizing photo from the Kotakaraba Market butcher's shop. Bon appetit!

Greg and Shawn!
Greetings from the republic of Portland! I feel like such a Westerner...I've been so busy with the new job that this is the first real chance I've taken to spend time on the blog. OUTSTANDING! Brings back lots of memories...I thought I remembered STAR beer being pretty good...guess I did not grow up with Fat Tire and all the other good PDX stuff.
Hey..not sure if you're reading the comments or not (liked the ones by Evangelist-huh?). But the house is great, the pool is clean, and we sat it the hot tub tonight. We're keeping the pool at about 80 so it is nice to swim in..that gas heater works great! Is it expensive to run?
Ok here is the some-what sad news. Tonight..exactly 40 days and 40 nights into our stay, I'm finishing the last of the assorted beer that you left (for us right?). It is a Corona with no lime (bet STAR is better). (Wonder what Evangelist will have to say about the 40 days and nights time-line).
Anyways, I'm sort of relieved. It has almost been like work to down the Hamms, Lites, PBRs, and Buds left behind from so many Happy Hours by your friends (?). It's just not in my Dutch nature to have Beer go to waste so I got that shit-job done--finally.
Great blog Greg...please keep it up and know that we are thinking about you guys.
Steven says hi. He thinks that Sara Palen is dandy is fairly certain the Democrats are to blame.
Oh, by the way, I had some fond memories of FUFU too. Gone all gone now.
Just kidding about heating the pool
Mark and Karen had us over. It was very nice of them and we had a nice night--David is a good kid and the girls were nice too (can not remember their names--ugh).
Have a little palm-wine for me. It's better in the morning --Jeff
